COLUMBUS, OHIO – May 5, 2011 – Marsha P. Ryan has been elected to the board of directors of State Automobile Mutual Insurance Company.
Ryan most recently served as the chief executive officer and administrator of the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation (BWC), the nation’s largest state-run workers compensation bureau. Ryan previously held various executive positions at American Electric Power (AEP), including government affairs, marketing, customer care and field operations. Prior to joining AEP, she served in the public sector with the Ohio Department of Commerce, the Ohio Office of the Attorney General and the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio.
From 2002 until her appointment to lead the Ohio BWC in 2007, Ryan was a member of the State Automobile Mutual board of directors, chairing the nominating and governance committee. Ryan has also served as a trustee of Franklin University of Columbus, Ohio, and a member of the advisory board for USBank in central Ohio, in addition to positions on many non-profit and civic boards in Ohio and Indiana.
“Marsha knows the insurance industry, and State Auto, exceptionally well,” said State Auto President, Chairman and CEO Bob Restrepo. “She was a valued member of our board prior to her departure in 2007. We’re pleased that she’s agreed to return following her outstanding leadership of the Ohio BWC.”
Ryan, 60, fills the Class I seat vacated by Mark A. Blackburn, who retired from the board earlier this year.
